Shanghai closing all live poultry markets as new bird flu strain toll rises to 6 – David McKenzie reports

FROM CNN WIRES:

Hong Kong (CNN) - Shanghai will temporarily close all its live poultry markets after an unusual strain of bird flu that has so far killed six people in China was found in pigeons on sale in the city.

The closure of the markets will begin Saturday, the Shanghai Municipal Government's press office said on its official microblog account Friday. It didn't say how long they would remain shuttered.

Authorities in Shanghai had already begun slaughtering all the birds at a market in the city where traces were discovered Thursday of the H7N9 avian flu virus, which had not previously been found in humans until a series of cases were reported in China this week.

This morning on "Early Start," CNN's David McKenzie reports on China's move to close poultry markets.

VIDEO: See off-duty cop save TSA agent in airport altercation

FROM CNN WIRES:

(CNN) - There's no such thing as an off-duty cop. At least if it's Justin Roberts, there's not.

The police corporal from Pinole, California, was just capping off a family vacation in Hawaii. He was going through security at the Honolulu airport last Saturday, when he felt compelled to spring into action to stop a rowdy security breach.

He had just taken his shoes off to go through the body scanner, when he heard a "loud crash" off to his side, he told CNN affiliate KTVU.

"When I turned around, I saw a woman with her arms flailing, screaming at this TSA agent." He turned back around, thinking security officers would handle the ruckus. They didn't at first.

The disturbance turned into fisticuffs, TSA surveillance camera video revealed. The woman, who was trying to force her way through the security section for flight personnel, lit into the female TSA agent who was blocking her path.

He bounded over a waist-high security barrier and with a quick swoop and a professional takedown, separated the assailant from the agent and immobilized her on the floor.

Watch the incredible video for more on the story.

New Orleans jail video shows drugs, guns, filth – Sara Ganim reports

FROM CNN WIRES:

(CNN) - On shaky, grainy video recordings, a group of men show off a stash of pills, pop open Budweiser tall boys and shoot dice for stacks of cash. One injects what appears to be heroin; another displays a large-caliber pistol, ejecting four bullets from the chamber to show that it's loaded.

Here's the punchline: These guys are already in jail.

The scenes were captured in 2009 on a camera smuggled into the House of Detention in New Orleans, a decrepit lockup pressed back into service after Hurricane Katrina. The video's release during a federal court hearing this week sparked a new demand by the city's mayor for the federal government to take over the Orleans Parish prison system and a round of I-told-you-sos by advocates for the inmates held there.

On "Early Start" this morning, CNN's Sara Ganim reports on the video and the potential fallout for officials.
