This week is an especially important time of the year for many Catholics in preparation for Easter. Newly-elected Pope Francis will commence the papal calendar of events during the holy week ahead of Easter when he conducts a mass and performs a tradition that dates back to the time of Jesus later today.
But even with this ritual he's choosing his own path. Instead of conducting it on retired priests in a papal basilica, he will be washing the feet of prisoners at a youth detention center. CNN's Ben Wedeman explains the significance of this mass and where he chose to have it.
