Study: Rise in advanced breast cancer rates in young women – Elizabeth Cohen reports

FROM "THE CHART" BLOG:

Diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer in women younger than 40 has increased 2% a year, every year, from 1976 to 2009, according to a study published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The increase was seen in women aged 25 to 39 of all races and ethnicities, living in both rural and urban areas.

It's a devastating diagnosis, particularly because a woman younger than 40 who is diagnosed with breast cancer is more likely to have an aggressive form of the disease and face lower survival rates.

But for perspective, the overall population of women who are affected still remains small.

This morning on "Early Start," CNN's Elizabeth Cohen explains the study and what it could mean for early detection recommendations.

While the rise in advanced breast cancer in women under 40 is concerning (2% a year) which involved an additional 650 cases over the whole study, how about addressing the increase in lung cancer among never smokers, most of them women. The rates have increased from 5% (10,000) of cases to 12% (24,000) in the last decade. Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer of women and men; more than all the major cancer combined. It is time that we stopped talking "all things breast cancer" and start talking about the diseases that continue silently killing women and men.

HOW ABOUT WE LOOK AT THE POISONOUS FOOD WE 'VE BEEN EATING OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. THEY CALL IT BIOENGINEERED AND GMO PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN PESTICIDES AND WHO KNOWS WHAT ELSE. OTHER COUNTRIES WON'T ALLOW THEIR PEOPLE TO EAT OR GROW THIS STUFF BUT OUR COUNTRY INSISTS IT'S SAFE .. YEAH,RIGHT. ALL FOR THE GLORIOUS DOLLAR. SHAME ON OUR GOVERNMENT FOR THEY HAVE ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN.

So sad. Some research shows correlation between abortion and breast cancer. Roe v Wade 1973.

You have to wonder a bit if this isn't a result of women having children later in life or not at all. As it is reported that breastfeeding can and pregnancy can actually reduce the risk of this and other types of cancers in women. Maybe you could run an article showing some statistics on those things or at least a possible cause in the rise?

Time to make sure people are not eating meat with hormones......The estrodiol in the hormone injection is suspect. High estrodiol levels can lead to estrogen based cancers like breast cancer.

Elizabeth Cohen has just blamed women's reproductive freedom for increase in breast cancer among younger women. Nice. No consideration was given to our chemical-drenched environment, unregulated cosmetics and toiletries industry, or the overuse of antibiotics that also kill off good, disease fighting bacteria. Shame on you Elizabeth Cohen!
