She was the worst moderator. She interrupted Paul Ryan several times, just when he was going to make a point, but she let goofy Biden have all the time he needed. She was very bias, and she shouldn't have been the moderator at all. I agree with Erickson.
Martha Raddatz did a yomans job. She did what she was susposed to do. Biden hung himself. Thank goodness she did not stop it .We know Biden's strategy did not work and will back fire. Look up the term for nincompoop.

I thought she did a poor job in her choice of questions. Too much on international & not enough on jobs, the economy, and the deficit. Obama has a terrible record & she seemed to be trying to protect him since he attended her wedding. A black eye for CNN in my opinion & I like CNN.
Martha was not able to control the debate. She raised sharp questions alright, but didn't know what they meant. She questioned Ryan's math, but herself couldn't push on. Her shivering voice and lack of eye contact added difficulties.

I disagree with others. Ms Raddatz was a poor debate handler. She interrupted Ryan more than Biden. She did not control Biden's interruptions and therefore she certainly does not deserve a good grade. She needed to control ALL interruptions.
Martha Raddatz was the utmost worse commentator. She didn't interrupt Biden as she did several times with Ryan.

I agree with what Peter said. Martha Raddatz did a great job moderating. She is very sharp and has done a lot of reporting from overseas and in combat areas. Erickson is out to lunch and trying to patch up Ryan's lackluster showing.
Martha Raddatz did OK. I loved the way she focused them with probing questions. However, I was so ... so disappointed with her lack of wanting to curb Biden's interruptions. Just when Ryan was putting the finishing touches on his comments, Biden knew he had to do something desperate. He just kept getting away with it.
Two things when considering Mrtha Rad...
1. Did she ever sk Biden for a guarantee...?
2. After Paul Ryan asked Biden to relax and let him answer the questions before he interupted, Martha NEVER aked Joe relax... Paul Ryan gave her the set up to control the foaming at the mouth GEEZER !

A debate is not an interview. Moderator asks a question, one person makes an argument. The next person counters. Then the first person counters and back and forth. Biden's continual interruption, laughing, grimacing and other interjections were ridiculous and would have him penalized and eliminated from an actual debate. Martha didn't do a thing to control it. Americans want to learn from debates. Not see stump speech talking points, numbers out of context and watch crazy uncle joe smirk and gaffe like an idiot. She did an unnacceptable job. "Please let him finish" is all it would have taken.
She did well "Except" the rules said two minutes each. Biden got his without interuption. Almost every time Paul spoke he was interupted and she never put Biden in check on that.
Overall I thought it was a poor job because she allowed all the interuptions from Biden. He ran the debate
Of course she was the greatest... Women are good, men bad. Same old stuff as the Phil Donahue Show and Oprah. CNN is so gender biased. Many articles are twisted so a woman is the focal point. Case in point, debate not about her... I have noticed the paste few years women are running / ruining CNN. The ratings are lower than they've ever been. It's the Garden of Eden effect... Women don't want equal rights, they want to be in control and want whatever benefits them. They will always try to make another woman look greattttttttttttt!

She seemed to be afraid to interrupt Biden's bully outbursts and pointless laughing. I do empathize with her though. At times it looked like Biden was going to reach over and take a swing at her and Ryan.

I was dssapointed that she allowed Biden to interrupt repeatedly and she herself interrupted Ryan several times while letting Biden ramble on. I did like that she challenged both candidates by pressing them to answer the given questions. By the way, Soledad's comments about "there was a lot of talking over'.." seemingly placing equal blame on both candidates, was very dissaponting.

One of the best debates in a long time. The moderator gets a hefty B....she was prepared and touhed on a lot of topics in a short time. She wasn't afraid to ask a follow up question and call out untruths which has not been the case for the majority of reporters these days. I miss the days when tough questions were asked and if an answer wasn't honest you call them on it. The American people deserve HONEST answers and answers of SUBSTANCE this was the closest to that in a long time. Good job Martha. Too bad the last Presidential debate wasn't this calibar and I am afraid the one Tuesday will not be either.

Soledad has lost her mind and is completely wrong. The moderator is to not let one person continually interrupt the others point. A debate is supposed to be equal time to let one state their case and not to be overridden by the other debater. When the other persons time has come, then is the time to make their case and point. She was terrible and should never be allowed to repeat this effort. Her bias was blatant and her performance was worse than Lehrer. If anyone thinks otherwise they should watch the debate again. She let doufus Biden make a mockery of the entire debate and made herself a debater for the purpose of self-aggrandizement.. I'm not a fan of either candidate but I do believe in decorum and she allowed chaos to reign instead.

When asked if they would allow the tax break for the super rich to expire – Nope, its imperative the super rich retain that gift from the rest of the American taxpayers.
When asked about how he will cut the deficit and increase military spending – not one item offered as what the Republicans will cut.

I would agree with Mr. Erickson. Martha was not 100% acting as a moderator in real sense of the word, she was more of an interrogator it's because she was just shooting questions and not calling the attention of VP Biden that he was interrupting Cong. Paul Ryan whenever Ryan got his turn to speak or explain his answer to questions that Ms. Raddatz shoot for both of them to answer. Ryan should be given time to complete his answer or explanation per time alloted for him to do. And vice-versa. Cong. Ryan was just too gentle not say to the VP "hey Joe let me finish my explanation."

Just would have liked there to be a link with the humanitarian concerns with a tie in to those comments about how sacred life is blahblah abortion topic. Martha Raddatz was atrocious. Paul Ryan was debating two people last night. Someone should have explained to Martha that the moderator is not actually one of the debaters. And say what you want about Jim Lehrer, but that debate was far more informative than any I've ever seen. After all, isn't that the real purpose of a debate....to inform people and let them know what you really stand for so they can make an informed decision?
Ms. Raddatz's moderating job was superb ~ A+. I would not appreciate Mr. Lehrer's return, though he was also very, very good previously. He seemed overwhelmed by Mr. Romney's aggressive style. Raddatz Rocked ~ ;_>)

Ryan was gentlemanly, Biden sarcastic, rude and a complete bore. Martha being of the smarter sex was faced with a dilemma. Would she show her disapproval of Joe's bejhavior or hide her true natural feelings. The same common feeling most people got watching this debate and that was that this guy , Biden is a jerk. Her ideology won and 80% of her comments,and effort were to make Ryan look bad. She interrupted him, attacked him , berated his answers, quickened the pace of rebuttals when sensing he would break, focused her stare on him when asking a negative question, and asked the questions that only come from the world view and prism of a liberal. The most intolerant people in the world are those who don't have any convictions.

I thought Martha Raddatz did a poor job in last nights debate. She seemed to behave in a manner that suggested favoritism, mostly toward Biden. Many times when one of the candidates was approaching the meat of the question, she would interrupt them and move to another area, as if she was scared they might say something on National TV that would damage their election chances. As a person looking for answers from both Ryan and Biden on the issues, she would cut therm short. It appeared she did this more with Ryan than Biden, but as so many people in the political arena, they think they know what we (the average voting American) want to hear and see rather than understanding we (again the same folks) know what we are doing, what information we are looking for so we can make an informed decision. I am interested in the right person for the job, not what she's interested in or what party of person she favors. Lastly, she did extremely poor in controlling the answer sessions. Biden was the primary individual that continued to interrupt both Raddatz and Ryan and she just didn't have the command or respect to call them on it and rain them in. If I had my choice in the future, I would not like to see her host another one of these events as I walked away with the same information I came in with, which was nothing.
I felt she was bias towards her friend VP Biden and kept interrupting Paul Ryan. Ryan couldn't have gotten away with what Biden did he was very disrespectful to Paul Ryan and you didn't even say anything. You interrupted Paul Ryan several times. Only I know of 1 time on Biden.
Martha was biased. There were several times where she cut off Ryan. In addition, there were a couple of questions she asked of Ryan but not Biden. For example, she never asked Biden the same question she asked Ryan about the threshold for war in the Middle East. She also allowed Biden to act like a petulant child with his grousing, huffing and interruptions. I was embarrassed for Biden and disappointed in Raddatz. But, I wasn't surprised. These liberal "journalists" are openly cheerleading for Obama.

It seemed to me that she gave Paul Ryan considerably more time to answer questions, therefore, I do not blame Biden for having to interrupt. I also felt that she demonstrated a certain bias toward Ryan in her attitude toward Biden
She was great. If she had been the moderator at the first debate between Romney and Obama, Romney wouldn't have walked all over her. She would have put Romney in his place for sure. Romney was rude, impolite, and rambled on and on and on to make people think he knew alot.
Apparently Martha was not prepared for the VP behavior and forgot Proverbs 29:9, i.e., "If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs and there is no quiet". The VP was rude in his actions which is indicative of what someone does when he is at an intellectual disadvantage. I believe she should would have done the public a service by reeling in the VP. I was ashamed of our VP.
I'm going to take a wild guess that Erickson is a Republican supporter? It seems the views of the debates have divided strongly along partisan lines; no thinking, just knee jerk reactions.

I agree with Erickson. Martha lost control from the first question. She never told Biden to "zip it" to give Ryan a chance to answer. However, as soon as Biden interrupted, she made Ryan stop and turned over the conversation to Biden

I only watched portions of the debate, but it sure seemed like the parts I saw were generally Biden and Raddatz Vs. Ryan with Ryan getting the best of both of them.
I'm supporting Romney/Ryan this election and I have to say Martha Raddatz did a fantastic job. I was skeptical at first when she came out and addressed the audience and she was visibly nervous. But she did a far better job than Jim Lehrer and it was her first time! I would love to see her do more debates. Way to go, Martha!

I thought she should have at least attempted to keep Biden from yelling over Ryan. A simple; "Let him answer please, Mr Vice President" would have sufficed; then she started interrupting Ryan too. I don't know much about either candidate but had a better opinion of Ryan simply by the way he handled the situation. My father always told me; if you have something to say; say it calmly and clearly (Ryan) – those that interrupt you and yell don't have anything intelligent to say – so they'll try to keep you from talking (Biden).
Martha Raddatz kept these guys honest and on target as opposed to James Leher who was run over by Romney, totally helpless and ineffective. She had very intelligent, thoughtful introjections.

Americans have no idea what good debate and discourse look like. I am therefore not surprised that there are people who believe that Martha Raddatz did a good job. I'd have told Joe Biden to keep his trap shut until it was his turn. Sure, I'd have told the same to Ryan, but it was only after the 30th non-moderated interruption from Biden that he realized that he was not going to a) get clean air time or b) get much air time at all without playing the childish game Biden wanted to play.

I thnk she was a little bias toward Biden, he inteurpped all the time and went over his 2 min. and was an idiot and she very seldom did anythinging to stop him. But in the end Ryan held his own I think he did great, far better than Biden.

What you ya want? He's a republican, and his guy lost this debate, so blame it on the moderator. Frankly, I think Martha Raddatz won the debate, with Joe Biden coming in a strong 2nd.
Martha told Joe that when he can speak next he only had a few seconds. If Joe didn't just take it upon himself to interrupt, one wonders how long Martha would have kept allowing Ryan to keep talking without interruption. I think she didn't do any better of a job reining them in than what we saw in the last debate. It was obvious that when it came to the VP he was only going to get a smaller amount of time to talk, and she told him that he would only have a few seonds.
She was absolutely horrible... so biased for Biden that it was disgusting... always letting Biden interrupt Ryan that is unless she wasn't interrupting Ryan.... There should be neutral moderators for these debates, not somebody who is obviously so biased.....
Martha kept telling Joe that when he could speak, he only had a few seconds. If he didn't interrupt as much as he did, how much longer would Ryan have been allowed to go on speaking? One only wonders.
My dictionary says a "moderator" is somebody who presides and acts as a mediator. As a mediator, she should have stopped the constant interruptions of Biden to allow Ryan to speak without being interrupted. Wasn't impressed with her performance at all.
A moderators job is to present the questions and control the debate, and that includes the behavior of the participants.
Ms. Raddatz allowed the VP to make gestures, odd faces, and allowed him to interrupt Ryan time and again. Decorum is part of the moderators job and in this regard she failed. In my opinion Ms. Raddatz did poor job and gets an F.
She did a terrible job. Absolutely awful. Neither candidate was given time to state their position without the other being allowed to interrupt. And early in the debate, Biden picked up on this fact and just let loose. Honestly think Biden won the debate simply because he knew he could talk down anything Ryan said with no repercussions. Biden still looked a jerk, but he did a much better job under the conditions they were in.
If Martha Raddatz had displyed even a modicum of competence as a *moderator*, we would have had a much better debate

From a rating of 1 to 10 I would grade Martha an overall 2 .... However, since this was a V.P debate, more than an elementary moderator is expected. Thus, for this VP debate, I'd grade Martha a -5 (yes, minus 5)
What did you watch Peter? Martha let Bidden interrupt Ryan in his 2 minute and continue doing it all evening, she was so bias and never stopped this old fool.
I think that Martha Raddatz was AMAZING! Unlike Lehrer, she didn't let the candidates just run all over the place, and she did a good job of stopping their completely-off-topic comments. She brought out great reactions from both, and I feel like the debate was very informative as a result of her moderation!
She did what I wish the Presidential debate had done; MODERATE.
She did an excellent job. It was a TRUE debate. The Obama/Romney debate lacked structure and direction. Obama was playing by the rules. Let Romney speak and Romney was overbearing/rude and didn't play by the rules of debate. How they chose a winner was beyond me. Jim Lehrer was horrific as a bystander who contributed nothing other than an momentary utterance of "Uh" or "Um."
All I could think is why isn't she running for president. She really understood the issues and attempted to hold their feet to the fire.
Martha may be "award winning" according to Diane Sawyer BUT she should have prevented Joe Biden from interrupting the other candidate time and time again. He was totally out of line in not giving Paul Ryan a chance to state his opinions without interruption.

The moderator was HORRIBLE! She would only interrupt or cut off one of the candidates and not the one who was being rude and interrupting everything the other did. If you didn't see that then you area blind or are trying to be just as bias as the moderator.

On the contrary, Ms. Raddatz did press Biden for ANY specifics on the Obama plans for 2012-2016. She only quizzed Ryan on his and gave Biden a chance to rebut.
She made absolutely NO EFFORT to press Biden on ANY SPECIFICS. She only ribbed him on Afghanistan and the Libya response, which has NOTHING to do with specifics for the next election cycle.
She earned a C- because he performance was lopsided in its preference to open up Romney-Ryan plans to debate without doing the same for Obama-Biden ON THE SPECIFICS.
Her job was only halfway done and America is just as ignorant about specifics of future plans of the current Administration was before she took the stage.

Martha Raddatz should be commended for her outstanding job of moderating such a difficult and contentious debate. I have a great deal of respect for Jim Lehrer but I too felt that he was asleep at the wheel. Ms. Raddatz kept the two candidates focused on the issues at hand and steered the discussion back on course whenever they strayed too far off topic.

I'd even go as far to say that Martha did an even worse job moderating a VP debate then Jim did with his presidential debate. In order for these moderators to be proficient, they need to choose one with bipartisan viewpoints. Martha is clearly leaning towards the right, and there is nothing wrong with that, no one is trying to infer anything bad. All I'm saying is they need a moderator who isn't biased, they need a moderator who is an independent and can be fair to both sides, rather than Martha who allocated more time for Ryan, and cut off Biden if he spoke too long but allowed Ryan to go on multiple tangents and misconstrue his statements. Overall, all politicans are corrupt. To quote a friend from NYTIMES, "the only difference when the next president is chosen or if the current president stays is the face of the person that is raping you".
