I forget the name of the woman Senator from Maine(?) who actlualy ran for president back in 1968 or 1972. Apart from that, we have not seriously considered either a black or woman candidate in my memory of presidential races Margaret Chase Smith (of Maine) ran for the Republican nomination in 1964. She got 27 votes at the convention.Shirley Chisholm (black and female) ran for the Democratic nomination in 1972. She got 151+ plus votes at the convention and finished 4th.Jesse Jackson ran for the Democratic nomination in 1984 and 1988. He got 495 votes at the 1984 convention (finishing 3rd), and 1218 votes at the 1988 convention (finishing 2nd).Pat Schroeder, Elizabeth Dole, Al Sharpton, Allan Keyes, Carol Moseley Braun too lazy to look them up.
