Thank you, Dr Gupta for your briefing on the Affordable Care Act and its impact on Medicare/Medicaid. Something many don't seem to realize is the impact of Medicaid – and potential cuts – on the middle class. The Alzheimer's experts tell us that as baby boomers age, we are seeing an increase in the disease – a disease which has no cure nor effective treatment. As the disease advances, the elderly end up in nursing homes. The cost of a nursing home is such that only the wealthy can afford it without financial assistance. For most, that assistance will be Medicaid – not Medicare. The Alzheimer's experts tell us they fear that the cost of Alzheimer's may bankrupt our health care system. I worry how the Middle Class will care for its parents in nursing homes if Medicaid is cut. Its a frightening, complex issue that I fear many don't understand until faced with it.
